Legal support for small business: contracts and paperwork in order, before the lawyer

Vesk Legal is not open yet. This guide explains what a fractional general counsel is, what paperwork a small business can organize before it needs one, and what Vesk Legal will never replace.

  • Contracts: organize the client and supplier contracts you have, spot what is missing and prepare working drafts for your lawyer to review.
  • Compliance: a renewal calendar for contracts, licences, permits and leases, with a reminder before each date.
  • Policies and terms: check that you have a privacy policy, that it matches the personal data you actually collect under PIPEDA, and keep it current.

We’ll tell you when it opens. No spam.

This is what we plan to offer, not a service you can buy today. The idea is that your business paperwork stops living in email threads and scattered folders.

  • Agreement review: before you sign, a list of points worth asking your lawyer about, such as terms, penalties and automatic renewals.
  • Trademark and corporate records: track your trademark application with CIPO and keep minutes and shareholder documents in one place.

Vesk is not a law firm, and Vesk Legal will not give legal advice or represent anyone before a court or regulator. Our team is based in Mexico City and is not licensed to practise in your province. Anything that needs a lawyer goes to yours; we hand them the documents in order and the questions ready.

A fractional general counsel is a licensed lawyer who acts as your company's in-house counsel part time. They advise you, draft what binds you and answer for the legal position of the business. No platform can do that.

Vesk Legal would not take that place. It would cover the organizing work around it:

When outside support fits, and when to bring counsel in house

Outside support fits when your contracts live in email, you do not know when your lease ends or your privacy policy no longer matches your data. These are organization problems rather than disputes, and steady habits solve them.

Counsel in house makes sense when you sign contracts every week or operate under special regulation. For a 5 to 30 person business that is rare: the usual setup is an outside lawyer for the big moments and your own order for the rest.

The paperwork worth keeping current

Whoever you hire, these are the documents small businesses neglect most, and the first things a lawyer asks for:

  • Written terms with your main clients and key suppliers.
  • A current privacy policy that matches the personal data you collect.
  • Signed employment agreements for everyone who works with you.
  • The end dates of your lease, licences and permits.
  • Your corporate records and trademark filings in one place.

Vesk Legal would follow the model of Software and Marketing. Today's plans are Starter (8 tokens a month), Growth (20) and Scale (40). Each task would have a fixed size in tokens, quoted before work starts, and you would see everything in the platform, web and app.

We are not publishing Legal task sizes or prices because they do not exist yet. The plan is to use the same monthly plans, with unused tokens rolling over while your membership is active. The Gold plan, from $1,470 CAD plus tax a month, spreads tokens across departments.

What you can do today

Everything we build in Vesk Software is in your name from day one: code, infrastructure and accounts. That is the cleanest legal footing for your technology. Marketing is in early access, and a 30-minute call is enough to see whether either fits.
